19th Annual Scholarship Golf Tournament

The Kansas City Kansas School Foundation for Excellence 19th Annual Scholarship Golf Tournament was held June 3rd, at the Sunflower Golf Course. Shotgun began at 12 noon with 36 teams ready to golf. Each year the Foundation awards twelve $3,000 scholarships to seniors from the five high schools in our district. The scholarships are funded through our Annual Golf Tournament.

The Golf Tournament is becoming more successful each year. The Masters of Ceremonies, were Brett Anthony (NBC News) and Will Sheilds (Former NFL & Hall of Fame). The KCK School Foundation for Excellence and the Kansas City, KS Public Schools are building relationships with our community, bridging support of our school initiatives and the achievement of the district's goals.

Through these partnerships, this year the KCK School Foundation awarded 20 additional scholarships, with seven being $2500 renewalable scholarships for 4 years. The KCK School Foundation For Excellence had 59 applications for our original 12 scholarships. We were able to award a total of 32 scholarships from the 59 applicants.

The goal for 2010 is to double the awards for scholarships.

Message From the Foundation Staff

The Kansas City Kansas School Foundation has gained a renewed focus and an increased commitment toward expanding the vision and mission of the organization. The economy has negatively impacted per-pupil funding which has resulted in a decrease in student and staff services. Now more than ever, it is critical for the Foundation to play a more ubiquitous role with financial support.

The Kansas City, Kansas School Foundation for Excellence needs for our students of the urban core:

  1. Improve student achievement so students may be more competitive in a global economy.
  2. Strengthen participation in under funded areas such as art, music, physical education, and athletics.
  3. Strengthen infrastructure by supporting programs that will ensure academic growth and student achievement.
  4. Funding scholarship financial support for ACT — SAT study and testing.

The Kansas City, Kansas School Foundation for Excellence supports the Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools (KCKPS) District 500. We strongly believe that diversity is an attractive characteristic which will assist students with knowledge of a global economy.
